Starting from zero, the biggest block is the fear of freezing, translating word for word, or sounding stiff and bookish. So the goal was to turn his first grammar wins into fluent conversation reflexes right away.

Real situations: introduce yourself, order at the bakery, talk about work and hobbies.
Goal: ask simple questions in the present tense using different registers, with and without question words.
Exercise · turn it into a question
Il regarde la télé le soir (He watches TV in the evening) → Il regarde la télé le soir ? (Does he watch TV in the evening?)
Tu commences le travail à 7 h (You start work at 7am) → Commences-tu le travail à 7 h ? (Do you start work at 7am?)
Il travaille pendant 10 heures (He works for 10 hours) → Travaille-t-il pendant 10 heures ? (Does he work for 10 hours?)
